From Alive & Kicking I got the release from Circle Of 5ths called Blurring The Lines almost two months ago and only now am I brave enough to listen to it. Steve Mahoney (ex-Drone) is in this band and the press release told me this is more of an attempt to achieve a commercial sound. That's a tough thing to obtain when you have female vocals, which Circle Of 5ths does. Don't shoot me for pointing out the obvious, but female vocals and "hard rock" is a tough combination to pull off, but it seems they do it better than most. In fact, after adjusting to it and telling myself this isn't the new Immortal CD, I realized that this band is proof that there is everything a music fan could want in Sacramento. All the bases are covered and we really don't need to buy much music that is "imported" from outside our area. Now I am not going to blow smoke up any asses, this style of music is far from my personal taste. It's that borderline "accessible metal" that naturally leaves me screaming, "Go, go, go!" like I'm stuck behind someone doing 55 in the fast lane. However, this is good for Circle Of 5ths because I am not the majority when it comes to musical preferences in American Society. The track "One Day" has a very Savatage sound in the guitars, which I dig. If you like your rock on the harder side, but hate growling vocals you can't understand, Circle Of 5ths is a band worthy of your support. |
