Circle of 5ths
It started out at 5, faded to 4, and finally 3 remain true to what is known in the local music scene as the band Circle Of 5ths. The final 3 are Steve Mahoney (Vocals/Guitar), Mike McNellis (Bass/Vocals), and Thommy Jacobs (Drums/Vocals) Circle Of 5ths was started in 1999 and included 2 other members who previously left the band - including their lead singer. Many people who know the band believed the leaving of their lead vocalist meant the end of the 5ths, but not these 3 guys.
There is a solution for every event that occurs - their solution was to have Steve Mahoney express his talent with lead vocals in addition to guitar - and Mike and Thommy doing backups while playing their instruments "Just because someone leaves we don't break up" Steve explains. Now the trio is back to writing music and is set to perform their first shows (in September) since becoming the improved Circle Of 5ths. When it comes to writing their music Mike tells me "We're not picky on who does what as long as we all get to do something."
Keeping many of their old songs while also generating new ones - the band is still running and is stronger than ever. Metal,Rock, Funk, Soul, and a mix to no comprimise - are used to decribe the 5ths.
As I sat and talked with Steve and Mike, I realized that not only is their music amazing and their stage performance off the hook - but also I found that they are some of the coolest guys you will ever meet. They are a humble band with Mike telling me "We don't consider ourselves better or the best at what we do..." as well as "It's about being humble and not arrogant."
Painting and art are a major part of their lives - as well as their music. They make the music they love to hear and play - and play they do. Pushing themselves mentally, physically and personally is what they are all about. They use inspiration from any life situation and also express their thoughts and feelings through music. "That's how you tell the world about it" Mike told me.
As for goals - They just want to leave an impact on people, and to get out and perform for their fans. A Circle Of 5ths show is always worth your money - the guys make sure of that. Their close bond with each other makes their music flow smoothly and is pleasing to the average music fan. With both guys telling me "Music makes me happy" I can believe it. I can also agree... their music makes me happy as well.
