From powerslave.com - Show review About mid-way through the all day event, Sacramento's newest heavy edged band took to the Stockton medium stage. Circle of 5ths, which if it is not readily apparent, is comprised of former members of the now defunct metal act Drone with a new female lead vocalist. Comprised of guitarist Drew Rosen, drummer Thommy Jacobs, bassist Mike McNellis, guitarist Steve Mahoney and the energetic, very attractive, baby-doll vocal talent of Shyra, Circle of 5ths came into Stockton with this being only their second show on stage together. "It's been going great with the exception of the two power outages at our first show (in Marysville at Rugby's Bar and Grill)", explained McNellis. Certainly it comes as no surprise that this band will draw some attention due to the simple logistics of having Shyra as the lead vocalist. With her toned body, red streaked mop hair, and energy combined with her melodic smooth driven vocals, Shyra is a definite attraction to this band. Add to that the guitar work of Mahoney and Rosen, and this band has an interesting formula. On stage, Circle of 5ths performed tunes from their recently released four-track EP "Blurring the Lines" including "American Society", "Consummate", and their strongest song to date, "Words";, which features Shyra on a bull horn during parts of the song (although the bull horn had a little feedback problem with the Stockton sound system). The sound is certainly more accessible than other harder edged heavy bands with Shyra's vocals over the top of the guitar, bass, and drum drone. Not bad for a second show on stage. |
