From powerslave.com -Recording Review Recently released by Sacramento's newest act, Circle of 5ths, is their debut EP offering "Blurring the Lines". While just four short songs in length, this EP gives a good idea of what this band is about musically. Combining a rather thick guitar tone, mid-speed tempos, and a female vocalist, Circle of 5ths is certainly not the typical metal / hard rock band. Of the four songs offered, the opening track "Words" jumps out as the strongest track with an up-down feel to the main riff with slower speeds breaking the song dynamics. Circle of 5ths is comprised of drummer Thommy, bassist Mike, guitarist Drew, guitarist Steve, and the vocalist Shyra who really gives this band their identity. While the vocals are not overly aggressive and angry (which contradicts some of the bitingly crisp anger of the lyrical content), Syra's vocals simply glide over the top of the heavier guitar tones. This disc is certainly different from the standard sound and the hard rock / metal fan will have to give it a few listens, but the catchy chorus's, groove-laden guitar licks and the vocal work combine to make a rather interesting sound. |
