From powerslave.com - Show review Finally, the "Ladies Night Out" show came to the last band of the night in Sacramento's relatively new act Circle of 5ths which features members of the now defunct Drone including guitarist Drew Rosen, drummer Thommy Jacobs, bassist Mike McNellis, and guitarist Steve Mahoney with their newest added feature, the strong vocal talent of Shyra who completes the interesting mix for this band . With a bulldozed, wall of sound type of live set which is fuzzed around the edges to create the heavy guitar driven style, Shyra's vocals step this band in a different direction with her smooth driven, lower end style. This band, since the last reviewed show in May 2000 at the Stockton Skate Fest, which incidentally was only their second show on stage together, have grown together in the past five months as the chemistry between Shyra and the rest of the band is notches above the Stockton show. Shyra is showing much more aggression on stage in her own way as well to complement the heavy end guitars and bass/drum combination. With this show, the band performed the tunes from currently available EP "Blurring the Lines" including "American Society", "Consummate" and their popular tune "Words". The band also performed a few newer tunes including "Closure" which moves a tad slower at the outset with a signature guitar squeal and "I'll Be" which features a tripped intro and moves between the distortion and cleaner sections. Circle of 5ths is a talented band with a talented vocalist and will probably continue to do well over time as this is really just the beginning for Mahoney and company. |
