Circle of 5ths - Live show review

Last night's Sold Out Capital Garage quintuple bill of Myme, Circle of 5ths, Winter Reign, Absent Me & Stigma was quite an event. It's quite rare that bands such as these perform within the Sacramento City Limits, although most of them are not from out of town - their members are largely from Sac. There's even of one member of Myme who actually lives just one block from the True Love on 24th & K. After the last couple years of bands who regularly play at Old Ironsides being exported to the hinterlands of Orangevale, it's good to see a bit of importing into the heart of downtown from bands who usually perform in Stockton and Vacaville finally begin to occur. Diversity is the heart of continued revitalization. Especially for those of us whose travels tend to follow closely to the tracks of Sacramento's local Light-Rail system.

Co5 drew hoots and screams from the near capacity crowd as new guitarist Nate Higgins (well known to many local musicians at his day job as a salesman at Guitar Center) and new drummer Jason Miller, also in their own first show with Circle of 5ths, added tons of chunky riffs and groove to Co5's trademark sound, joining original members guitarist Steve Mahoney and bassist Mike McNellis. Beaming after the show Steve commented "Breaking in three new members, I really wanted to play someplace we've never been before. Then play everywhere".

With strong commerical melodic hooks, harmonies and killer riffs displayed on such new songs as "Fade Away", "Deceive" and their the title track of their latest cd "This Time" (which features Steve on lead vocals) - Co5 appears to be picking up right where they left off, if not better.
